This week, we’re shining a light on wellbeing as Mental Health Awareness Week begins. It wasn’t so long ago that mental health was seen as a taboo topic, leaving many without support when they needed it most. Thankfully, there is a much greater level of understanding these days, creating a safe environment for people to start conversations and open up about how they are feeling.
Organised by the Mental Health Foundation, this week aims to raise awareness around mental health problems, including advice on how to prevent and manage them.
This year, the focus is anxiety – one of the most common mental health problems we can face. Many of us feel anxious at certain times in our lives, usually in response to a particularly stressful situation. However, if these feelings of anxiety occur more frequently and without a rational external trigger, it can become a mental health problem. If you’re struggling, you are not alone and help is available.
