Sports presenter, Gabby Logan, 48, reveals her beauty secrets, what she loves about fitness and why she is embracing middle age…

‘As a sports presenter I have a passion for reporting on it, as well as being a team player. Keeping active is part of who I am. Obviously, I have to be on the ball when it comes to knowing everything going on in the sporting world, but I love to immerse myself in it physically, too.

‘As a former gymnast I know only too well how fitness keeps you strong, mentally and physically, and after a good workout I feel I am a much better person, wife and mother. Walking plays a huge part in my life, and my husband Kenny loves it, too.

‘Being a part of ACAI Outdoorwear’s Outdoorsing campaign was right up my street.’

‘Being a part of ACAI Outdoorwear’s Outdoorsing campaign was right up my street as it is all about being outside and enjoying the fresh air and nature. I have always valued being outside and even when I have not wanted to leave the house, I make myself as I know I will return a much happier and calmer person.

‘I am a huge fan of Pilates, which has been a game changer for me. The change it brings to my body is unreal as you have to rely on your own strength and the visual impact of it makes me feel so strong.

Gabby Logan: ‘I have always valued being outside and even when I have not wanted to leave the house, I make myself.’

‘It is so good for your core to do Pilates as the trunk of your body is vital to care for as you get older. It sounds a bit naff to say, but Pilates really does connect my mind and body together. I also love to go for a run three times a week and do HIIT to build up a sweat.

‘I feel much better now than I did in my twenties. I’m more confident and able to push myself mentally. Having kids changes your body shape, but I have learned to embrace what I have, rather than dwell on it.

‘Many people ask me if I feel under pressure to look good because I am on TV, but I love to look after myself. I would take the same care whether I was on camera or not. My mother is in her seventies and still works and she is very glamorous.

‘It’s all about looking after yourself, which makes you feel better inside and out. I like to always have a positive outlook on life and always used to worry about being a drain on people. Now I don’t fret about things like that.

‘Growing older, I’ve surrounded myself with friends from all walks of life who know me well. Friendship is very important to me. Lockdown meant I was forced to stop doing so much of the work I was used to, but it gave me an opportunity to bring my podcast alive.

‘Getting my podcast, The Mid•Point, off the ground was so much fun. I love talking to people, so the podcast was brilliant as I roped my friends in to appear and then it just snowballed from there. I’d feel so lucky that I would sit and interview friends like Claudia Winkleman, John Bishop and Lorraine Kelly, and turn it into my own podcast.

‘The response I have had to it has been incredible and now I am recording my fourth series. I am loving the fact there is so much focus on mid-life women now and the issues we face. Talking about anything menopause related used to be such a taboo subject.

‘Even now, when I look back at my gymnastic coaches as a kid, and recall some were very moody, I wonder if that was menopausal symptoms they had. There’s been so many women in the limelight speaking out about mid-life topics and I have learned so much. I mean, I never actually realised HRT was not free in this country.

‘I am lucky in that I get a lot of free beauty products sent to me, but there is one brand that I have always stuck to. I lived in Canada when I was a child and my mother used a product called Metrin, which she swore by as a beauty therapist, and which helped clear up her adult acne. I’ve used it since I was 13 years old. I look at my mum’s skin now and it is incredible.

‘I believe the best thing for your skin is enough sleep and good nutrition. That is far more worthy than even the most expensive of serums for your skin. As for beauty, I like to have a fake tan so add some Tan-Luxe drops into my moisturiser that make my skin tone more even and give me a bronzed glow.

‘My biggest issue is my hair. After so many blow-dries and products put through it, I hate that it is now so wiry. If anything, I think I need to invest in some good hair masks.

‘I have somehow developed an ability to cat nap. When the kids were little, we would go to the cinema. I would make sure they were comfortable and then fall asleep for the whole movie, wake up at the end and pretend I had seen the film. That was the best kind of sleep.

‘As well as my podcast, I am planning to write a memoir and in terms of sports presenting, my schedule is crazy. I have so much going on. I’ve got the Commonwealth Games coming up and the Women’s Euros. So much sport was pushed back by the pandemic, so there is loads on. But the best bit is that a lot of the sport is based in the UK, so I won’t need to travel and be away from the family.

‘My 16-year-old twins are at a great age so, although they needed me for other things when they were little, they are now at an age where I feel my presence is just as important. I enjoy the fact that I can be here for them and not be working in another country.’
