Learn how to help yourself find relief from the symptoms of holiday heartburn with Pyrocalm Control.
As holiday season approaches, many of us are eagerly anticipating exploring new destinations, indulging in local cuisine, and unwinding from the stresses of daily life. However, for some travellers,
the joy of holidaying can be overshadowed by the discomfort of heartburn. The stress of preparing
for travel, plus long-distance journeys, sampling new local foods and changes in your daily habits,
mean heartburn can put a dampener on your holiday.
Why can holiday heartburn happen?
Heartburn is caused by stomach acid travelling up towards the throat and it can be triggered by a
number of lifestyle factors including rich, spicy or fatty foods and alcohol – just some of the things you might encounter on your holiday.
Stress is also a known cause and exacerbator of heartburn and acid reflux, so all that getaway prep and travelling may also contribute to holiday flare-ups. Often, just changes in routine, diet, time zones, sleep and being in a different environment can all disrupt your digestion, so it’s no wonder you can encounter tummy troubles on your travels!
Packing Pyrocalm Control in your suitcase means relief from the symptoms of heartburn are at hand.
How to manage holiday heartburn:
The last thing you want is holiday-heartburn anxiety. Check out a few ways to minimise the risk of it happening:
➞ Know your triggers. Keep a food and drink diary ahead of your holiday so you know what to avoid or have in moderation. Common culprits include tomatoes, acidic foods, chocolate and caffeine.
➞ Don’t make a big meal of it. Opt for smaller, more frequent meals and try not to overeat.
➞ Stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water will help your digestion generally. A good rule of thumb is a glass of water with every meal.
➞ Keep it loose. Wear something comfortable that isn’t tight fitting around your waist.
➞ Sleep on it. Heartburn can often disrupt sleep. Try to avoid eating 3-4 hours before bed. Prop up your head and shoulders with pillows to help stop stomach acid from travelling upwards to the throat.
➞ Pre-plan. If you experience heartburn, speak to your pharmacist about a suitable remedy to take away with you.
