The experts at Bimuno® are here to explain how you can support your gut health through positive daily habits and routines…

Prevention is better than cure. It’s a cliché. And a hackneyed phrase. But that’s because it’s accurate. To be the best version of ourselves, we need positive daily habits and routines to keep us healthy.

Every single one of us is overwhelmed by a modern epidemic of busyness. There’s a kind of constant shifting of the goalposts that goes on. Juggling a demanding career, family responsibilities, and financial commitments can affect your health and wellbeing.

You can’t suddenly decide one morning to opt out of everything that’s demanded of you, but you can take control of your health and make positive changes that last a lifetime.

It’s not about what you know. It’s about what you do consistently.

We all know the basics of a healthy life. Eat well, hydrate, exercise, take vitamins, read, prioritise sleep and support others. But when push comes to shove, and life is coming at you nonstop, doing these consistently and squeezing more from your already wrung-out life doesn’t happen.

When life is good, the big-picture concept of health can be exceptionally hard to focus on. It’s too easy to drown out the symphony of naggy little voices reminding you to make better choices.

Rather than set unreachable goals that will leave you beating yourself up for all your healthy lifestyle shortcomings, add in an easy new healthy habit that’s super easy and extremely doable.

If a person could do only one simple thing to support their health and happiness, supporting gut health probably wouldn’t be among the forerunners.

But scientific studies show that gut health plays a huge role in maintaining your overall wellbeing, and it’s thanks, in part, to the trillions of bacteria living in your gut.

The presence of good bacteria, more specifically, an optimal balance between good and bad – can influence digestion, brain function and immunity.

Bimuno® Immunity is a daily food supplement that can be added to any drink, or sprinkled over food, restoring balance in the gut in just seven days. Bimuno® works by feeding and stimulating the growth of good bacteria in the gut, including important bifidobacteria, which limits the space for potentially bad bacteria. So, if you’re looking for a healthier, happier life, this is one of many small, consistent actions that can make a difference.

And once it becomes part of your routine, build on that momentum by adding more healthy habits.

Gut ground control

Our body contains trillions of microbes, including bacteria and viruses, crucial for our overall health. Many of them are found in our large intestine. Collectively, we call this the gut microbiome.

The gut microbiome contains both good and not-so-good gut bacteria. Research has shown that good types of gut bacteria, such as bifidobacteria, have a variety of functions. This includes supporting our gut, immunity and brain health. So, we must take care of it and maintain adequate levels.

We all know that hormones are associated with the gut. The complex systems in our bodies are majorly connected. Anything that happens in one part of the body impacts others. A healthier good bacterial production depicts a healthier gut and vice versa.

The human gut is home to a complex ecosystem of microorganisms, including beneficial bacteria and fungi. This collection of microorganisms is collectively referred to as the gut microbiota, and it plays a crucial role in various aspects of health, including digestion, nutrient absorption, immune function, and even mental health.

You might be surprised to hear that the gut is our largest immune organ, accounting for around 70-80% of our immune cellular hard wiring. Whilst other physical and mucosal barriers are working to protect us, including the skin and saliva, most of our body’s natural armour is located within the gut.

How the gut is linked to immunity:

First, let’s look at GALT, or gut-associated lymphoid tissue, which is scattered throughout our gut and essential to our gut’s immune system. GALT relies on intricate conversations between our gut microbiome and immune cells to distinguish friend from foe and act appropriately.

Our gut microbiome has a leading role, including producing substances that it uses to signal directly to immune cells and providing a ‘boot camp’ to educate our immune cells to differentiate between beneficial and potentially pathogenic microbes. The gut microbiome’s role is therefore paramount for healthy immune system regulation and why we need to take extra care to help nourish and support it.

The other crucial layer of the gut-immune link lies in the intestinal epithelial barrier, which is just one cell thick. This barrier is essentially what separates our external world from our internal one, and it also has a rather paradoxical role in that, on the one hand, it needs to be permeable enough to extract the nutrients from our food, but on the other, it also needs to watch out for potentially harmful molecules. This is why we need to aim for a gut barrier that is both flexible and simultaneously vigilant.
